West Side carries a particularly meaningful connection to Sheridan, Wyoming—the hometown of nationally recognized artist T. Allen Lawson.
This intimate original was part of Lawson’s celebrated Hometown exhibition at SAGE Community Arts in Sheridan. The 2018 exhibition marked an extraordinary homecoming for the artist. The show sold out and, at the time, was the largest exhibition SAGE had hosted.
Born and raised in Sheridan, Lawson has built an extraordinary career around his ability to find beauty and significance in the quieter places and moments that surround us. His paintings often ask us to slow down and notice—the landscape, architecture, light, atmosphere, and familiar places that quietly become part of our sense of home.
That makes West Side especially compelling. This isn’t simply a painting of a Western place; it belongs to a body of work in which Lawson turned his attention back toward his own hometown.
There is something intimate about seeing Sheridan through the eyes of an artist who knew it first as home. West Side becomes more than a painting of place—it is part of Lawson’s personal visual record of the community that helped shape him.
Lawson’s career extends far beyond Wyoming. His work is held in important public and private collections, and his many honors include the Prix de West Purchase Award. In 2008, he was selected to create the painting used for the official White House Christmas card.
