“A LGHT IN THE DARKNESS, 1 JOHN 5:4” by Thomas Kegler

In A Light in the Darkness, 1 John 5:4, I sought to illustrate the enduring power of faith amidst the literal and metaphorical storms of life. By placing the lighthouse at the mercy of a surging, tumultuous sea, I wanted to capture the tension between the chaotic power of the natural world and the unwavering constancy of a divine beacon. The heavy impasto and frenetic brushwork of the crashing waves represent the "world" and its many trials, while the singular, focused beam of light cutting through the gloom serves as a visual testament to the scripture: "For everyone born of God overcomes the world." My intent was for the viewer to feel the cold spray and the thunderous roar of the ocean, yet find a sense of absolute peace and victory in that small, defiant flame that refuses to be extinguished by the night.
