Biography

Born 1957 in Millbrae California, I was submersed in the arts from a very early age due to both my parents being practicing artists. My dad made his primary living as an Art Director, first in New York ( One of the original MadMen ) and then various agencies in San Francisco after relocating to the west coast. On weekends and evenings he would moonlight as a fine arts wood carver, many of which are in fine collections today. My mother was more crafted oriented making custom patterned quilts and Afghans, most of which were for magazine articles in publication such as “Better Homes and Gardens”.

as mentioned, creating was always present in our home, so when it came time for me to get serious about the rest of life and I what I wanted to do for a living, there was little question of what I wanted to major in college. The first of college studies yielded an AA in Commercial Art in1978, concluding with a BFA in Visual Communications in 1982, via California State University, Long Beach.

Upon graduating, I took my portfolio on the road interviewing with as many of the top Design firms I could get into of Los Angeles in the early 80’s. It was a very exciting time working on many high level accounts ( Early Apple computers, LA Olympics, etc. ) all the while, soaking up as much experience as I could. After six intense years of seeing how the industry ran, I decided it was time to venture out on my own, founding the my own firm, CDA / Curry Design Agency out of Santa Monica, CA.

From 1988 to 2001, the Curry Design Agency operated out of Santa Monica California, employing 18 people at the high water mark. We were able to built a strong reputation for doing “high end” work, servicing accounts the likes of; Mercedes Benz, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences / The Academy Awards, NASA / Jet Propulsion Labs, etc.

Like all good things the corporate part life ran its course and after 15 years of commercial work it was time for a change. in 2001, I decided to pursue painting on a full time basis. with that design came a few lifestyle changes such as moving from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, since my work no longer depended on being in the city, which ultimately landed me in the Ojai Valley, CA

After 24 years, the Ojai Valley continues to yield unlimited visual resources and inspiration. I am is continually observing and documenting natures visual treasures by way of paint on linen, a medium that has been around for centuries and is not likely to change for centuries to come. After all my best painting is still just around the corner…
