Artist's Statement

I live in Poland and have always felt a deep connection to nature. Over time, that connection has only grown stronger. What once felt like an appreciation has become something much more essential to me, a need to be close to it, to observe it, and to understand it in a more meaningful way.

I began painting in 2020, and I am entirely self-taught. From the beginning, painting filled something in me that I had not been able to reach before. It gave me a way to express what I was feeling without needing to explain it. What started as curiosity quickly became something I could not step away from. I think about painting constantly, and it has become a central part of how I experience the world.

My father always told me that if something is worth doing, it should be done well, not halfway. That idea has stayed with me. I approach painting with that same mindset, knowing that growth comes through effort, mistakes, and persistence. Over time, I have come to understand that failure is not something to avoid, but something to learn from. Each painting teaches me something, and each one brings me a little closer to where I want to be.

I am drawn to quiet moments and simple subjects, especially in nature. I am not trying to tell a specific story, but rather to create a feeling. I want the work to feel calm, honest, and open, so that someone else can step into it and find their own meaning. Light is very important to me. It shapes everything, not just the form, but the mood and the atmosphere. I try to use it carefully, allowing it to guide the painting rather than overpower it.

Painting has brought me a sense of peace that I had been searching for. It allows me to slow down, to focus, and to feel present. It is something deeply personal to me, but also something I want to share. Through my work, I hope to offer that same sense of quiet and reflection to others.

Biography

Piotr Grzechowski is a self-taught painter based in Poland whose work reflects a deeply personal and disciplined engagement with nature and observation. He began painting in 2020, driven by an internal need to create and to better understand the quiet complexities of the world around him. What began as a personal pursuit quickly evolved into a focused and immersive practice.

Working outside of a formal academic framework, Grzechowski has developed his approach through persistence, careful study, and a commitment to continual refinement. His progress is guided by a strong personal philosophy instilled early in life that anything worth doing should be done fully and with intention. This mindset is evident in both his process and the sensitivity of his work.

His paintings center on quiet, contemplative moments drawn from nature. Rather than relying on overt narrative, he emphasizes atmosphere, restraint, and the subtle interplay of light and form. Light serves as a unifying force in his work, shaping not only structure, but mood and emotional resonance. The result is a body of work that feels both grounded and introspective, inviting a slower, more considered engagement from the viewer.

Though early in his career, Grzechowski’s work demonstrates a clarity of vision and a level of dedication that distinguishes him among emerging painters. His practice continues to evolve with intention, rooted in observation and guided by a desire to create work that is both honest and enduring.
